I have a confession to make. I am a huge Dr. Strange fan. I collected Dr. Strange comics in the late 80’s, and loved the occult storyline. I also thought Benedict Cumberbatch was brilliant in the Dr. Strange film. I’m usually disappointed with Hollywood casting, but I think this one was close to perfect.
So when I heard that Dr. Strange II was coming out, I couldn’t wait to see it. This was on the heels of Disney’s screwing with Florida’s laws and getting kicked in the nuts for it. So I wasn’t really too surprised when I read the following headline:
Disney refuses to cut lesbian reference in 'Doctor Strange 2,' Saudi Arabia says
So I dug into the article, and discovered that Saudi Arabia asked Disney to cut 12 seconds from the film where new lesbian heroine (or is that hero, or xero, I can’t keep track) America Chavez (female, Hispanic AND lesbian, an intersectional three-fer) discusses her “two moms”.
Disney, so far, has refused. 12 seconds. In the time it takes you to read this sentence (if you read fairly quickly, it will be over). But no. It’s more important to have those 12 seconds of “tasty LGBT goodness” than to take advantage of the Saudi Arabian market.
The question is: Why?
Because it’s important to Disney to show in each and every one of their new movies that homosexuality is cool! It’s American as apple pie! Heck, everyone should do it! And they slip these things in simply to affect the minds and hearts of our children while the parents unassumingly still think that Disney is simply wholesome entertainment for kids.
Suckers!
So if they can’t groom our kids in the schools, they’ll groom them with their films. Parents, be on the lookout for this stuff. It’s insidious.
It seems like the people running Disney are breaching their fiduciary responsibility to maximize shareholder value.
